FELLOWSHIPS
The faith journey can be a lonely endeavour to travel alone. It is for this reason that Calvary Methodist Church encourages those who have made Calvary a place of belonging to join a group of fellow sojourners. This idea is anchored on John Wesley’s idea of the class system. The ideal for a fellowship group is that Christians should support one another and hold each other accountable.
Fellowship groups meet at least once a week and check in with each other on their lives in general and faith journey specifically. This is in accordance with the idea and the question that John Wesley encouraged Christ followers to ask, “How is it with your soul?”. This question opens us as Methodists to be vulnerable with each other, so that we can support one another in the best way possible.
In a growing church where it is easy to just become a number, Fellowship Groups ensure that each of us is known by name (even if it is just by a few) in the church. It gives one a sense of belonging and fellowship and ensures that in moments of difficulty and joy there is a group of people who can come and minister to a member as soon as possible.
Essentially, the Fellowship Group enables us to reach out to each other and to ensure that we all work for God’s mission to succeed.
CONFIRMATION
In Confirmation, those who have been baptized declare their faith in Christ and are strengthened by the Holy Spirit for continuing discipleship. At a Service of Confirmation, they are received into membership of the Methodist Church and take their place as such in a local congregation.
