To God’s beloved
I give thanks and praise to God, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, who gathered us together last week in such high spirits as we resumed the rhythms and routines of life and worship within our Calvary community. Truly, the new song within our hearts is of a God who is faithful, who makes all things new, and who holds marvellous things in store for us in this new year.
One of these marvellous things is our upcoming Covenant service on the 29th of January (next week at all three services) in which we declare God’s readiness to enfold us in generous love without us having to prove ourselves worthy or deserving, and we, in turn, respond in love with our own commitment …
… to surrender our lives into God’s hands …
… to do God’s will at work and in rest …
… to serve God as and where God chooses …
… through the power and the grace of the One who makes and saves and calls us.
As one of our beautiful Methodist hymns remind us, we:
“Give up ourselves, through Jesu’s power,
His name to glorify;
And promise, in [that] sacred hour,
For God to live and die.”
As you prepare your heart and mind for this meaningful moment throughout the coming week, I invite you to prayerfully and pratically consider the shape that your commitment will take in 2017:
- How regularly will you worship?
- Where and when will you make time to sit and learn at God’s feet?
- How will you respond to God’s generosity?
- Where will you serve?
I also invite you to join us for a time of prayer and preparation on Thursday at 7p.m. or to sign up for our Covenant Foundations course (6 Wednesday evenings starting 1st February) as we explore what it means to live, learn, leave, lead, and love as a Covenant people.
Yours in Christ,
